What am I doing?

MCC Electronics Professor D. Blum

This is a photo of me giving a demonstration in a beginning electronics class. Using a cathode ray tube and rare earth magnets is a visual way of showing the action that takes place when electrons are acted upon by a magnetic field. As you begin your study of electronics you will discover that both magnetic and electric fields are basic to the operation of all our devices. These fields are impossible for us to see, and difficult to visualize with just "book learning". With demonstrations such as this I am able to remove the mystery and show that the principles you learn and mathematics involved have practical applications in the real world.

I really enjoy seeing my students discover the world of electronics and then pursue an enjoyable and profitable career in the electronics field. My approach is "learn by doing". As a student in my class you will have lecture and discussion combined with related hands-on lab experience on a regular basis. I believe that having practical experience immediately following the understanding of theory is the best way to internalize and retain information.
