D. Blum, Electronics Adjunct Professor

idblum@hotmail.com

My background includes both military and civilian communications and avionics electronics along with over 20 years teaching experience in industry, high school and community college settings.

I have performed engineering duties for the NATO Communications Group in Europe, Sperry Flight Systems and Boeing Aircraft here in the Phoenix area. I have an FCC General Class Radiotelephone License, and am an ISCET Certified Electronics Technician, with a Journeyman Communications Endorsement. While working at High-Tech Institute I was Recipient of the "Teacher of the Year Award" in 1997 by the Career College Association (CCA).

I have taught classes at the US Army Signal School, Northland Pioneer College, Phoenix Institute of Technology, High-Tech Institute, and The East Valley Institute of Technology. For the past six years I have enjoyed teaching in the Technology Department here at Mesa Community College.

My current hobbies are bicycling and photography. I have an Advance Class Amateur Radio License and am on the air as time permits. My wife and I have one son who is currently serving in the Peace Corps with his wife in the Republic of China.

John Bramwell, Electronics Adjunct Professor

battleshipguy1@yahoo.com

John Bramwell has been an adjunct instructor at MCC since 1997. John's electronics education goes back to 1973 when he completed a DeVry Institute of Technology technician program. From 1975-1985 John attended Mesa Community College completing AA degrees in Electronics Engineering Technology, Liberal Arts, General Studies and Management. John completed his B.S.E.E.T in 1997 from Arizona State University, and was honored with the Outstanding Senior Award in the Technology Department at age 39. He later received his M.T. from ASU-East in 1998. All of John's education since 1973 was completed while working in full time technical positions.

John has held numerous technician and supervisory jobs at Burroughs Corporation and Motorola. Promoted from the ranks of technicians, John became a semiconductor product engineer at Motorola in 1979. From 1997 to 2005 John served in various product, project, and program management roles until 2005. While at Motorola John taught internal courses on basic electronics and algebra for Rio Salado Community College. From 2005 to the present, John has worked for Cirrus Logic Corporation and EAG-White Mountain Labs in various engineering and engineering management roles. John's professional focus has been on introducing new semiconductor products to the market, and reducing costs on existing product, with a focus on semiconductor packaging, E.S.D., and automated test engineering.

As a product of the technical education system and electronics industry in Arizona, John has a strong desire to pay back to the community his love of electronics and education. John especially enjoys helping working adults through their adult re-entry into the community college system at M.C.C. As a person who held complex technical jobs while continuing his education for over 25 years, he understands the concerns of the adult student, and looks forward to the challenge of introducing students to the world of electronics.

Wm. P. (Bill) Klein, P.E., Electronics Adjunct Professor

Bill retired as a Senior Applications Engineer with the High Performance Linear Division of Texas Instruments-Tucson. In addition to a BSEE from Arizona State University and registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of Arizona, Klein has authored many magazine articles, application notes, web casts and conference papers. His experience as an analog circuit designer covers a span of over 40 years in fields ranging from mineral exploration to medical nuclear imaging. His last 10 years were spent developing and delivering technical seminars for engineers around the world on analog circuit design topics. This design experience is built on a five year tenure as a lab technician, and four years as a member of the adjunct facility at Pima Community College in Tucson.

J. Staudinger, Electronics Adjunct Professor

Carl Whitesel, Electronics Adjunct Professor

cwhitesel@mesacc.edu

Carl Whitesel has been an adjunct instructor at MCC since 2008. Prior to coming to MCC, Carl taught at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte as a Graduate Teaching Assistant and as an Adjunct Faculty Member. While a Teaching Assistant, Carl received the “Outstanding Teaching Assistant” award for his work in the Engineering Technology Department.

In addition to teaching at MCC, Carl is also a Ph.D Student at ASU, where he is pursuing his doctorate in Engineering Education. His research focus is on gender and diversity in engineering, and best practices in preparing engineering and technology students for the rigors of their respective curricula. Carl earned an AAS in Electronics Engineering Technology, a BSET in Electrical Engineering Technology, an MS in Engineering Management, and an MSE in Industrial Engineering.

Carl started his professional career as a bench technician while still attending the community college. Upon graduation, Carl went to work as a Field Engineer in the Textile Industry, where he traveled all over the world in that field. After completing his BSET, Carl went to work in the Building and Power Automation Industry, where he designed automation and control systems for many industries, including textiles, semiconductors, power generation and banking. Carl became an instructor “by accident”, while working on his MS, and is passionate about teaching his students and ensuring that they have the knowledge, tools and skills to succeed in the Electronics Industry.
