Job Status: Part Time

Duties: Trainee will work closely with journey-level Airway Transportation Systems Specialists (FV-2101)in one or more discipline areas: Communications, Radar, Navigational Aids, Automation and/or Environmental. Student trainees will be expected to meet academic, performance, conduct and standards set forth by by the approved Collegiate Training Initiative (CTI) college and the FAA.

Part-Time Employment Salary is based on full-time work schedule and will be pro-rated depeding on hours worked.

Locality Rate: The salary represented in this announcement includes a 2008 pay rate as well as the locality rate of 14.74%

Requirements: Must be a United States Citizen or National and must indicate so on your application. Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must certify at the time appoinment that they have registed with the Selective System, or are exempt from having to do so under Selective Service Law.

Description of the Collegiate Training Initiative (CTI) Internship Program This internship program was established by the FAA to provide work experience opportunities for students pursuing an electronics career while currently enrolled in approved CTI curriculum at approved CTI Colleges. This program provides a mutual benefit to the student trainee and the FAA. Student trainees are able to integrate their classroom knowledge with hands-on training in an actual work environment. The student will ultimately benefit when he or she enters the job market. The FAA in turn views the student trainee as a prospective employee and is able to evaluate his or her employment potential by observing his or her performance.

Participation in FAA CTI Internship Program The CTI Internship Program requires that the student trainee will complete a minimum of 640 hours of career-related work experience with the FAA and to successfully complete the requirements of the CTI curriculum. The 640 hours of work experience must be completed on or before graduation date. Work hours will be coordinated around the student's academic course schedule. The student shall maintain a 2.0 grade point average (GPA), based on an average scale of 4.0 during the internship. Upon entrance into the CTI Internship Program, all course work shall be completed at the same approved CTI College. Upon successful completion of the internship program, student trainees may be converted to either the FV-2101, Airway Transportation Systems Specialist or FV-0856, Electronics Technician job series as a prospective employee. If offered employment by the FAA, converted student trainees may be place at any location nationwide, at their own expense.

Education Requirements Applicants must meet all the following requirements: A. Currently enrolled in the CTI approved curriculum at an approved CTI College, B. Completion of one semester of the approved CTI curriculum at an approved CTI College while maintaining a grade point average (GPA) of 2.0, based on an average of 4.0.

Qualification Requirements: In addition to meeting the requirements of the CTI program applicants must the following basic qualification: FV-B: High school diploma or equivalent FV-C: Completion of 1 academic year of post-high school study FV-D: Completion of 4 academic years of post-high school study leading to a bachelor's degree with specialization in or directly related to the field in which the student will receive training on the job.

Required License: State Drivers License required.

Interview Policy: Some, all, or none of the candidates may be interviewed.

Requirement for security clearance: This moderate risk public trust (Level 5) position requires a National Agency Check and Inquiry (NACI), which may be completed after placement.

Letter of recommendation from the Dean of the Electronics Technology Department or appropriate Department Head of the CTI approved college.
