U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Partnership

What's this"FAA program" all about?

Because airports are on the cutting edge of Electronics technology the FAA is a large employer of Electronics techicians. Instrument landing systems, radars, control tower radio communication systems, air traffic control systems, backup systems, backup power generators, backup energy storage systems, and many others all require highly educated Electronics Technicians for installation, calibration, qualification, and maintenance. Due to the extreme safety issues involved, these are highly responsible positions.

Because the public safety is at stake, the FAA must be sure that it is hiring ET's who meet their high standards. But according to the U.S. Dept of Labor, Bureau of Labor statistics, the quality of ET programs vary widely. (Read their full report here.) Therefore, the FAA decided to hire students only from Electronics programs that they have carefully examined and certified that will produce qualified graduates.

In Arizona, the FAA chose MCC Electronics to certify. And the certification process was thorough indeed. Six representatives of the FAA visited from Washington DC, California, Oklahoma City, and Sky Harbor for a two-day evaluation. They examined our curriculum, our syllabi, textbooks, exams, quizzes, and even conducted private interviews with our students.

The FAA Program at MCC

The FAA certified the existing MCC Electronics Technology AAS degree. There are no separate "FAA courses" or "FAA degree".

Students who have been enrolled for one semester or more in our ET program are eligible to apply to the FAA for internships and full-time employment. If hired for an intership, the FAA will work with you to create a work schedule that will allow you to complete your ET degree at MCC. You will, of course, be paid. When you complete your ET degree, you will be eligible for full-time hire by the FAA.

After being hired as a full-time FAA employee, you will travel to Oklahoma City to attend the FAA Academy for about a month of fully-paid FAA-specific training.
