I have another question that is not answered here. How can I get it answered?
MCC maintains an online system called the Maricopa Career Network into which you are encouraged to place your resume. Local corporations often search this database for students who meet their qualifications. In addition, student internships are sometimes available. If available, intership opportunities are often posted on the bulletin boards in the Technology Building.
What industry certifications can I earn?
We encourage our students to become Certified Electronics Technicians. This certification will improve your attractiveness to potential employers. Our curriculum prepares you for the examination offered by the International Society of Certified Electronics Technicians (ISCET). A certified representative of the ISCET is on our staff and can provide more information. For your convenience, we offer this examination on campus. See the bulletin boards in the Technology Building for dates and times.
In addition, our ET program is certified by the Federal Aviation Administration. Ours is the only Electronics program in Arizona that has this certification. Our graduates are hired by the FAA to support airport radars and landing systems at Sky Harbor airport in Phoenix.
How long will it take to earn my electronics degree?
If you are full-time, it takes two years, including a summer.
But I'm working full-time and can only attend classes part-time. How long will that take?
Some of our students can take only one course per semester, while others take two courses per semester. There is no time limit on completing your degree; simply apply for graduation whenever you are close to completing all the required courses.
I'm a busy working adult with children. Will your classes fit into my schedule?
Maybe. Although we don't offer all of our classes every semester, we do offer all our courses both in the mornings and in the evenings. You can earn your degree entirely in the evening or entirely in the morning. You can even take most of your general education classes online if you prefer.
Plus, we have a wonderful, licensed and certified child care center on campus. You can sign up your child(ren) for a time slot that matches your class times.
I'm an adult; will I be the oldest person in a class full of teenagers?
No! ALL ages are welcome and represented in our classes. MCC's average student age is 27. In the Electronics program, we have students ranging in age from the twenties to well past retirement age. We have had students as young as 13 (with special permission).
I'm still undecided. how soon must I decide?
You have time. There are several courses that are common to both of these degrees. For example, ELE111, ELE112, ELE121, ELE131, ELE181, ELE222, and ELE241 are required by both degrees. If you are undecided, take these courses first.
I might want to pursue a 4-year degree eventually. What credits transfer?
This diagram shows an overview of transferability between MCC Electronics degrees and ASU.
Both of our AAS degrees (ET, and EET) will be accepted by ASU-East into any of their Bachelor of Applied Science (BAS) degree programs. You will enter their program as a Junior, with only two more years of classes (if full-time) to obtain a 4-year Bachelors degree. The BAS degree is intended for people who will work in industry in technical positions such as plant managers and production managers, but who will not generally be doing design or research work. You can major in areas such as Computer Systems Administration, Consumer Products Technology, Instrumentation, Microcomputer Systems, Production Technology, Semiconductor Technology, and Software Technology Applications. Take a look at the BAS brochure.
Yes, but that's a B.A.S. degree. what if I want a B.S.E.E.T. degree from ASU?
The AAS EET degree is accepted for transfer to ASU East towards a B.S.E.E.T. after a course-by-course evaluation.
For transfer to ASU-main and other Arizona universitites, take a look at the Arizona Course Equivalency Guide for Electronics to see which of our Electronics courses transfer to Arizona's major universities. (To see how ALL MCC courses transfer, see the general Course Equivalency Guide.)
The general education classes (English, humanities, math, and physics) classes transfer. See the Course Equivalency Guide for details. Because our electronics programs are algebra-based, however, and the university electronics courses are calculus-based, the electronics classes will not generally transfer.
